This project was established in response to the 2012 Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act, which outlined the requirement for Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNA) at a local level. These assessments are expected to lead to stronger partnerships between communities, local government, and the NHS.
Given the importance of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) in shaping priorities for health and social care investment it is essential that a proper assessment of environmental factors, which impact on population health and health inequalities, are given real attention and emphasis.
The guidance has now been published – read ‘Linking environment and health:A resource for policy and decision makers working on Joint Strategic Needs Assessment’ here
The LCCP has developed a resource for policy-makers which addresses the connection between health and well-being, population health and environmental change. The guidance identifies the strategic challenges involved and outlines what practical steps can be taken to increase the health and resilience of London’s communities.
The main focus of this resource for policy-makers is practical – to strengthen action on the impact of these environmental issues on health and well-being in London.
On 7 March 2013, LCCP held a workshop, Local health and wellbeing in a changing climate to help Health & Wellbeing Boards realise their objectives in a changing climate and explore the findings of the publication ‘Linking environment and health’.
